After studying piano and guitar from an early age and playing in pop and jazz bands, I trained at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London for three years, being awarded the Graduate Diploma in Music and the year's prize for Best String Player. There I studied with Hector Quine the leading guitar teacher of the time, and my piano teacher was the late Carola Grindea, founder of the European Piano Teacher's Association and The International Society for Study of Tension in Performance.

Following post-graduate teacher training including modules in instrumental tuition, my guitar tutor book Easy Stretch Guitar was published in 1979. Since then I have performed and taught in several centres in England, settling in Exeter in 1999.
